The Stripology ruler by Creative Grids is my favorite quilting ruler. It is a large template – with slits for the rotary cutter to follow - for making cuts from ½” to 20”. For the 2 ½” strips needed for the Many Trip Quilts, it speeds up the process significantly if you prefer to cut your own strips. The process is as follows:
-
Place the fabric so that it fits within the template cutting grid,
-
Use the gridlines on the template to assure you have everything squared up,
-
Using a rotary cutter, cut at the specified locations on the template.
2 ½” increments are marked with squares, 1 ½” increments are marked with stars. This facilitates cutting multiple strips in the most common sizes.
Whether you start with a precut jelly roll or cut your own strips, this quilt construction method requires cutting the assembled strip "tubes" into rings, and the Stripology ruler also makes that task a breeze.

The photos below show the template placed on a fabric tube in order to create rings, and stacks of the cut "rings". Find the Stripology ruler at your local quilt shop or buy now using the Amazon affiliate link below.
